FC4 Boot from external USB Hard drive

I installed Fedora Core 4 onto my laptop hard drive. (only thing on the hard drive). Now i want to remove the HD and put it into a external USB enclosure and Boot FC4 from that HD when ever it is plugged in. I set my bios to boot from USB device. But no luck. I don't want a dual boot system, I only want it to boot from the USB drive if its plugged in. Is this possible?

Please keep your awnsers simple as i'm am totally new to linux.

Thanks

This is possible, but it helps if you have installed directly to an external drive.

Anaconda has installed everything to run on hda - but now it is sda - which means you will have to edit grub.conf and produce another initrd.

There are web sites discussing this - and other threads in LQ as well.
