FC3 splash screen

Lately Ive been tweaking my Fc3 as much as possible. Ive been thinking about the FC splash screen, you know the one with the box, the messages and mouse that comes almost inmediately after first-step-boot. I was thinking "I dont need this", I feel fine just having the normal text telling me whats going on and then my display manager.

So the question is: can it be disabled? is it wise? if it can be disabled, how?

Thanx for any replies.

Yes, it can be disabled. Edit your "/etc/grub.conf" file. On each "kernel" line, you will see an option, "rhgb". Remove the rhgb and that splash screen will no longer appear.

If you later decide you really like the splash screen after all, you can just repeat the above procedure, and put the rhgb option back on the kernel line.

Wait, remove the rhgb only, right?

Yes, ONLY remove the rhgb option. That option stands for "Red Hat Graphical Boot", and it's what makes the splash screen appear.

For example, if the kernel entry is:

kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.10-1.770_FC3 ro root=/dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00 rhgb

Then change it to:

kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.10-1.770_FC3 ro root=/dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00
