FC2 software RAID???

I currently have a AMD xp 2000 chip and a 7200 RPM 80 GB drive. I'm switching over from debain to FC2 so since i was doing a reformat i figured that maybe i'll get a second 7200RPM 80 GB drive and stripe them in a RAID. Is this worth while ?? Will there be any performance gain, or just more cpu overhead??

I have an AMD XP 2600 machine 1 Gig or Ram, with a NForce2 chipset on the motherboard, 1 Maxtor ATA133 80 Gb 7200 RPM, 1 Western Digital ATA100 80 Gb 7200 RPM. I found that using software raid and striping across my drives did increase drive read, write performance. All I can say is give it a try and see, if nothing more, you will just have an extra hard drive for a rainy day.

I used software raid on my fedora 2 install and I think it's fast.

[root@mybox# /sbin/hdparm -Tt /dev/md1

/dev/md1:
Timing buffer-cache reads: 1416 MB in 2.01 seconds = 705.99 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 330 MB in 3.00 seconds = 109.91 MB/sec
