FC 14 - Network is unreachable


Hi,

I just did a fresh install of Fedora 14 using the DVD installation method. I selected KDE as my desktop.
When I login to the new installation as a regular user and not root, I can't access the internet. I did some poking around but I haven't determined what is going on.

Here's some info from my system.

I went into Network Connections under System Settings and saw this,

Shouldn't I see eth0 listed under there?

Clicking on the little networking applet in the KDE task bar shows this, http://imgur.com/FOReq.png

I'm not sure what to do at this point. All my previous linux installations (suse, slackware, ubuntu, redhat) have always found my network card and connected to the Internet. Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated.

This sentence is probably confusing. I only ever logged in as a regular user. I never tried logging in as root to see if the internet will work. I'll try but I doubt it will.

Hi,

you did not define a default gateway (manualy or via local ppp process), so the packets do not know where to go to find internet.

Check network configuration and add your router or ppp device as default gateway, this should look something like this:

You can use:

route add default gw MY_ROUTER_IP_ADRESS

Thanks for the help! I can now connect to the Internet.
Now to get my screen resolution to stay at 1680x1050 after I set it and restart the computer.
