Dual Opteron on Fedora Core 2 64bit

Hello everyone,

I need to setup a new dual Opteron game server on Fedora Core 2 64bit.

I'm new to 64bit Linux in SMP and i'm wondering if I need to do something special to make it work.

Do I need to recompile the kernel to run in SMP mode?

Do I need to recompile the kernel to optimize performance for Opteron processors?

Do I need 64 bit libraries to run my game servers (Counter-strike, COD, ET, etc...)?

Do I need to run processes differently when using SMP?

Anything else I should setup or pay attention to?

Thanks in advance!

Ciao.

I would move forward to FC3 if possible. Running smp is trasnparent as long as the kernel is compiled for it (like the FC3 smp kernels). I do not know if they are optimized for 64 bit. I would just do a straight install and see what it does. Then worry about optimizing as you go. You can always upgrad the kernel as you figure it all out. I run smp on P4, which is not quit elike a real dual processor, but the kernel doesn't care. Fars as it is concerned there are two processors.

Thanks for the reply! It was useful.

Why should I upgrade to Fedora Core 3 exactly? Problems with Core 2?

Thanks.
