Connection difficulties (can anything see out?)

I recently installed FC5 and have successfully installed my wireless card's drivers, but I can't seem to get anything except for command-line based utilities, gFTP, and Firefox to see anything on the internet. GAIM and Warcraft III (running under wine) immediately fail because the network is unreachable. I've disabled IPv6. Is it a firewall thing? Does anyone know how I could fix it? Help would be much appreciated!

One possibility - If you are using a proxy server, but routing is broken, then applications that can go via the proxy would work, whilst all others would fail.

Currently, I am not using a proxy server. Could it be that the firewall is blocking most connections?

The default firewall configuration on FC5 only blocks inbound connections, but obviously your router might be blocking (most just rely on NAT, though, which shouldn't affect Gaim).

Another thing to try is basic tests like ping and host on the specific servers that you are using for chat and gaming. There is some network connectivity, so the question is why these particular connections or services don't work.
