Compile Kernel 2.6.7 help
I am running Fedora Core 2 and was running Kernel 2.6.5 and now i am trying to compile the new 2.6.7 kernel. Well if i do an make xconfig and than modify the config file to what i want, i.e get rid of the stuff i do no use or have on my system and than i go to compile the kernel, it will not boot up. But if i go to compile the kernel and keep everything intact but change my proccessor type and add firewire support, it will compile and the kernel will work fine. The only problem is that the modules folder in /lib/modules is 310megs versus the 39 meg modules folder of my old kernel from the fedora core install. Can someone help me with some advice to get that module folder down to 40 meg or so and not 310 megs?
This is what i do to compile the kernel:
1) make xconfig= choose what i need
2) make
3) make modules
4) make modules_install
5) make install
thanks,
Garrett
