compile 2.6.7 kernel and root=LABEL=/ not work?

On FC1, I have compiled 2.6.6 kernel, and it works well with the grub.conf:
root=LABEL=/
While, I have just compiled 2.6.7 kernel , and it cannot endure this word, I must change it to
root=/dev/hda4

Why? Anybody can figure where the issue lies in?

I have to admit that i'm rather more amased that the first one worked.

"root=LABEL=/"
For this one to work Grub "needs" to read from the /etc/fstab file to get this, unless it's defined further up in the configfile or somewhere else in Grub.
Since i'm a Lilo user, i've alwys seen the "root=/dev/hda*" whatever partition i've used as root then.

I have do the compiling for 2.6.6 several time, this works.

While for 2.6.7, I have done this more than 10 times, but everytime I fail.

someone tells me to compile both e2 and e3 into kernel ,instead of the mode of modules. I did so. But fails too.

I get a dell mobile, and I install rh9 on it, and compile 2.6.7 on it. Strange, root=LABEL=/ works. I don't know why either.

Any one has idea?
