Cannot do software update in Fedora 7

Hi, This is my first post. I installed Fedora 7 and did all available software security updates. Now when I boot the computer, at the top right where it says "security updates available", it says "Unable to retrieve software information. This could be caused by not having a network connection available." but I am able to connect to the internet. I hope a gave enough information.

Are you able to manually install some of the software packages using yum?

Hi, Thanks for the reply. I am new to linux. When you say manually, is that the same as clicking on Applications > System Tools > Software Updater? If so, yes I tried that and it gives me the same message.

No, he means open an xterm eg
Applications->Accessories->Terminal
the swith to root user
su -
<root passwd when asked>
then try
yum install <pkgname>
you'll get more detailed errors msgs. Post the cmd and msgs here.
