booting problem : drm:drm_mode_rmfb

I have installed fedora 12 around a week ago and was using it smoothly for 4 days.
5th day I switched it off and after rebooting it gave a error message :

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[drm:drm_mode_rmfb]

*ERROR* tried to remove fb that we didn't own.

Boot has failed, sleeping forever.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have been going through many forums for the solution and from there I got the information that I should boot in init 3 level and restart the xserver.

I have tried booting in text mode but no luck. I got the following error..

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
No root device found.

Boot has failed, sleeping forever.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I think its a kernel problem. I tried booting with many live cd's and recover the data (the least I could do), but I couldn't.
seems like the kernel is inaccessible for the file table.

the report at bugzilla is 539709. But that is mostly for live spins. And I have fedora i386 installed on my lenovo laptop.

the report has been filed about a month ago and there is no response at yet.

please help me out. some of my important data is stuck in that.

You could try using the recovery option from the install cd/dvd. Hopefully you did a backup?

I have already tried that.. but as I said the kernel is not accessible.. Thus none of the other linux distros are detecting the linux installation.. and the list include fedora 12 dvd..

after the legitimate steps when the rescue mode looks for installation it gives the message "no linux installations found"..

thank you for responding.. please tell if you can any other solution in mind..

I have tried to mount the linux file system in rescue mood of FC12, as it was not recognising the linux partition automatically.

after few attempts and looking at the dmesg | tail I realize that my FS is EXT4 instead of EXT3 which I had given while installing.

I did a successful manual install with the given arguments and saved my data.

on the next boot I realised that FC12 rescue mode recognised the linux partition and mounted it automatically.

now my system is booting/working with no problem at all.
