Booting of Fedora 6 requires me to hit Alt +F7 to get to graphical login.

Hello all, I have just installed Fedora Core 6 (Zod) on a Proliant ML 350 P3 1.2 Dual Processor Server. Every time I boot up into Fedora it will act like it is booting up into the graphical login but it will pause and beep for about a second and the text login shows up. So what I do is hit Alt+F7 to bring up the graphical login. I have created and .xinitrc file in my home directory and added "Gnome=gnome-session" to it w/out the quotes. I have also checked my init runlevels and it is set to run the graphical mode init 5. I also tried to force it when initially booting up in grub "quiet 5" at the end of my vmlinuz line. My video card is an ATI Rage XL.

Thanks ukblack

Edit your /boot/grub/grub.conf file and put 'rhgb' or 'rhgb quiet' at the end of the kernel line if it isn't here.

Best check your system and Xorg logs in /var/log for clues.

Did you ever get this fixed ?? I'm having the same issue and can't seem to find a fix anywhere

Fedora Core 6
Tyan Tiger 200 MB
2 x 1Ghz Piii
ATI Rage XL chipset onboard

I do get an error about ati not the right setting for card0 in the Xorg.log file, but it does seem to let me ctl-alt-F7 and go to graphical mode and then login with no trouble Thanks.

Tim
