No, the posting of the /var/lob/messages file does not show any usb devices being attached. the command is /sbin/lsusb not /sbin/lusb (maybe just a typo, but jic it's not).

No devices attached;

$ /sbin/lsusb
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000

Device attached;

]$ /sbin/lsusb
Bus 003 Device 002: ID 05dc:0080 Lexar Media, Inc. Jumpdrive Secure 64MB
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000

And from 'tail -15 /var/log/messages' after the device is attached. Note you may want to be root for this command, I have defined my normal user account in /etc/sudoers to allow me to do some tasks using sudo without a password(ignore the sudo portion of the example below).

$ sudo tail -15 /var/log/messages

You may want to re-boot the system and disable selinux at boot time. Do this by pressing any key when the grub splash screen is displayed. Using the arrow keys select the Linux boot choice then press the 'e' key. Select the line that begins with something like 'kernel /vmlinuz' and press the 'e' key again. At the end of the line add a space followed by 'selinux=no' minus the single quotes. When done press the 'Enter' key followed by the 'b' key.

You will have better luck reviewing your /boot/config-2.6.14-1.1644 file for exaple then where you looked. The /boot/config-<kernel-version-number> is the config file used to create the kernel-<version-number>

this setting basically needed right? I also turned off SElinux as required did above and did a make gconfig turned on these thing mentioned... but oddly enough..the belkin have an no irq in setting area,nor does my marvel onboard Lan card have irq..nor are they being functional.. ok next phase...D** this is getting frustrating..

OK, once again you should not have to compile anything, just use the latest supplied kernel and boot the system with this kernel and selinux disabled. And lets have a look at what is loaded and what irq's are being used;

cat /proc/modules > modules.txt

cat /proc/interrupts > interrupts.txt

Both commands will create a file which you can use for cut and pasting and/or for copying for later use.

I'm a little concerned about seeing your usb mostly on one irq, but that may not be a big deal;

201: 5 IO-APIC-level saa7133[0], ohci1394
209: 53 IO-APIC-level ehci_hcd:usb1, uhci_hcd:usb2, uhci_hcd:usb3, uhci_hcd:usb4, uhci_hcd:usb5

I do see that your usb ports are active and the modules loaded successfully;

ohci1394 71457 0
uhci_hcd 70369 0
ehci_hcd 70477 0

and 'cat /proc/modules' also shows that your network devices are being loaded (this is good);

atmel 72273 0
sk98lin 208041 0

The missing lsusb command just means you do not have the usbutils rpm installed, not a big deal.

So, the atmel driver is present (good) now let's try and find out if it can talk to an wireless AP device. First let's find out if it's ethX or wlanX (where X is a number starting with zero). Have a look at your /etc/modprobe.conf file does it show anything about either device (atmel or sk98lin)???, something like 'alias eth1 atmel' or 'alias eth0 sk98lin', if not then add each line without the single quotemarks at the end of the file. When done re-start the network services;

service network restart

then try something like;

iwlist eth1 scan

Hopefully you should see something like;

# iwlist eth1 scan
wlan0 Scan completed :
Cell 01 - Address: XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX
ESSID:"AP_Router"
Protocol:IEEE 802.11b
Mode:Managed

If you do then try something like;

iwconfig eth1 essid 'AP_Router'

then if that works;

dhclient eth1

If your wireless AP router is configured to provide ip address you should now have a connection, so check;

ifconfig eth1

My wireless device is wlan0 so I get the output (sight change to the command) of;

# ifconfig wlan0
wlan0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX
inet addr:192.168.49.80 Bcast:192.168.49.255 Mask:255.255.255.0

Interrupt:185 Memory:e2000000-e2002000

FYI: I'm masking the MAC address (the XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX) of my hardware for security reasons.

no sign of wlan0 atmel device in these above mentioned command sets they all acting as if the atmel / belkin not plugin when it is..maybe something wrong with irq as you saw?

Please post the contents of your /etc/modprobe.conf file.

And also check your /etc/sysconfig/networking/devices for any files please, and if you have any provide the list.
Questions.........

I'm assuming that you have a wireless router someplace close by. Does this router also have some 'wired' coonections available that you can use??? If, yes then could you connect your system to this router and try doing something like;

ifup eth0

Want to see if you can use the 'wired' ethernet connection is all.

If you boot the system cold (power off then power on) with the usb ethernet card already installed, does kudzu find the usb device? I'm thinking that maybe the device is already known by the system and no configuration is needed, or the device is dead or very sick.

Been doing some checkng about your Belkin wireless problem, it seems your not alone;

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...hreadid=335059

The results and fix was to use a differnet Linux Distro. This would seem a reasonable suggestion. I have always built my own kernel from kernel.org sources. Maybe it's time you give a different distro a try. As a suggestion, I would try the latest Knoppix or SuSE Live CD and see if this works.
