I thought using the ATI official drivers was the cardinal sin as stated in the sticky at the top?? Should I just start over and reinstall? Becouse I think that is what messed me up (installing propritary drivers).

Using the offical ATI drivers is by no means a 'sin'; i've never used the drivers from the livna-repository because the official ones work for me. I must admit: sometimes they do need a bit of work, but there's always someone on the net who has figured out how to get them going.

On FC5 (five) I could just run the executable to install the driver and logout/in to get it running. On FC6 (six) I had to tweak 2 things: the link to autoconf.h and the 3 lines added to xorg.conf, but in the end they work nicely.

I just wanted to point out that an ATI X800(XL) runs well under FC6.

How can I change the monitor Hz? I think that's the problem.

In the xorg configuration file: /etc/X11/xorg.conf there is a monitor section.

Mine looks like this:
Quote:
Section "Monitor"
### Comment all HorizSync and VertSync values to use DDC:
Identifier "Monitor0"
VendorName "Monitor Vendor"
ModelName "Iiyama Prolite E485S"
HorizSync 30.0 - 83.0
VertRefresh 56.0 - 76.0
Option "dpms"
EndSection
Normally, if you have a visible desktop, you can just choose your monitor in the "Display Settings -> Hardware -> Monitor Type -> Configure" window. The monitors that can be chosen in this window can be found in the file: "/usr/share/hwdata/MonitorsDB".

Maybe you can find your monitor & settings in there and by editing the "xorg.conf" manually (in characterbase mode) you can get a visible desktop. Just try to find a HorizSync & VertRefresh that matches your monitor.

P.S. I submitted the settings for the Iiyama Prolite E485S monitor to bugzilla myself awhile ago and now it's part of the Fedora distribution by default. This was my little contribution to Linux...
