Hey there,
I am new to linux... I have installed Fedora Core 5 on my laptop and would like to access my windows partition. I followed the installation instructions at fedorafaq.org and installed kmod-ntfs, I am able to mount the partition but I am only able to access it as root. I am not able to change the access rights to it or change the owner even as root (using chmod command or changing it from properties in file browser when I am logged in as root); I get an error message "read only partition" (even if I try to to give only read rights). Can anyone help me? Thanks.
You have to edit your /etc/fstab entry for that partition in order to give ordinary users read permissions. Post that file here and we can go through what needs to be edited.
You don't have any entry at all for an ntfs partition in fstab so I assume you are manually mounting that partition from the command line. Can you post what commands you issue for mounting that partition. I need the device file for the partition and the mount point you want to use before I can create an entry for it in fstab.
I was using:
mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/windows -t ntfs -r (I found it somewhere on this web page but when I followed the instructions how to edit the fstab posted there I couldn't get it to work).
Thanks.
