A few linux questions...

I installed dual os (core 2 & win2k) on a machine with seperate hard drives. Windows would randomly not boot up. I was told core 2 was the cause of this problem & had to ultimately uninstall core 2. (1. Has anyone else had this problem? (2. If I do install core 2 again, is there a way to fix this problem? (3. Has anyone had this problem with core 3? thx

I think someone who doesn't know linux gave you a line of crap.
If you have the dual boot menu setup correctly, then both windows and linux should boot properly. They don't randomly prevent eachother from working.

Maybe, but the problem only started after I had installed core 2 and stopped once I got rid of it. Maybe it was a flaw in grub?? Anyone know?

I think I understand the problem that you mean, the dual boot bug that some people faced whilst using Fedora (I suffered it to on a machine that had xp pro and core2). The problem seems to have been fixed in core 3. It wasn't just Fedora though, some distros such as Suse and Mandrake had it as well, but not to the extent that Fedora did. It was due to some bug in GRUB and kernel 2.6.

Quote:
Windows would randomly not boot up
The issue with the 2.6 kernel and the partition table wasn't random ( windows wouldn't boot at all ) and even uninstalling / reinstalling linux and/or windows wouldn't solve the problem. There are probably several posts here about the problem and how to fix it.

reddazz is right that it wasn't just fedora had that issue and as far as I know, it is not an issue with newer versions on those linuxes.

But it still was not a random issue where windows would sometimes not boot.

I didn't think it made any sense either. Either way, I'm going to see how things go with core 3
