Thumbs down MayB more exact installation hardware requirements?

Possibly considering DreamLinux as an alternate for VectorLinux on a desktop.
Though just about the only info on installation HW reqs for DreamLinux was the following:
http://www.dreamlinux.com.br/download.html
Quote:
Dreamlinux 3.5 Release Candidate 4
Hardware Requirements XFCE: Pentium III 128 MB RAM HDD or SDD/FlashDrive 4GB free.
See documentation or Dreamlinux Forums for details.
Wiki documentation gives http://wiki.dreamlinuxforums.org/
Once the Dreamlinux forum is accessed, I get

Only major DreamLinux hardware site seems to be
http://wiki.dreamlinuxforums.org/ind...are%20database , and this doesn't even have minimum or suggested HW-install reqs.
I.e., no easily-viewable way of getting necessary HW install documentation w/o having to require a login
Not even a FAQ here
H$%^#, why bother if there are other good distros besides Dreamlinux!!???
VectorLinux's Hardware Requirements info at http://vectorlinux.com/products is amazingly clear
Quote:
Standard Edition: Pentium 200 or better, 96MB RAM, 2.1GB hard drive space for system only, more for your data.

SOHO Edition: Pentium 750 or better, 128MB RAM minimum, 3.1GB hard drive space for system only, more for your data, video and monitor capable of 1024x768 resolution at 24 bits color.

Light Edition: Pentium 166 or better, 64MB RAM minimum, 1.8GB hard drive space for full system - more for your data.

Live Editions: Pentium 750 or better, 256MB RAM minimum, video and monitor capable of 1024x768 resolution at 24 bits colour. For the Beryl version you will need a modern video card.

Thanks for the feedback, i'll get onto it right away.

Basic requirements are:
Quote:
Pentium III 128 MB RAM HDD or SDD/FlashDrive 4GB free.
I personally ran Dreamlinux Xfce on a Toshiba Satellite Laptop with a 650Mhz processor and 64Mb RAM. The live CD was slow, but installed it worked fine.

To have a comfortable experience (Games, Compiz etc) I would recommend 1Gb processor and 256Mb RAM with a 32bit + graphics card.

The expanded installed Dreamlinux occupies just over 2Gb's of space, hence the minimum requirement of 4Gb if you want room for apps and documents.

PS: Could you tell me which link on the wiki lead to a restricted area of the forum, i'd like to check it out.

PSS: I have distro-tested Vector, it's a very nice distro, and yes, there documentation is very good, not Arch or Gentoo standard yet, but better than ours. It is something that we are slowly getting round to.

We have only been up and running since January, so our little community is plodding along nicely at the moment. We only had a forum back then, the wiki is a recent addition and is being worked on.

Again thanks for the feedback.

Let us know if we can help you further.

?

Hi guys I don't think being so critical of a first visit is really necessary!

No one, as far as I have seen has been offended by the:

I have been only a member for a short time...but never encountered a problem accessing the forum without being a member?

Many forums have the " are you registered" login window quite easily accessible ...saves complaints...or does it?

nycace36 from the help and understanding I have had at Dreamlinux...I would like to say that richs-lxh and the team are very helpful at all levels of knowledge. I am not the spokesperson for Dreamlinux...but it is such forums that make Linux what it is today.

I hope you find what you are looking for in Dreamlinux.
