X configuration tools

Just got a Deb 3.0 distro, for my laptop.

The X setup was terrible. non-existent XF86Config

Is there a nice simple x configurator?

Don't seem to have xconfig(urator) (?) installed or on the distro.
Have no internet.

It should work 'cos i had Suse 9.0 on it and once i had the nvidia
driver the screen was beautiful.

I can't be bothered with too much hardware set up as i've got
php MySql scripting to do.

So is there anything that comes with a debian DVD, usually that can help?
There's no useful documentation on the DVD (haven't checked B side tho)

Don't particularly want to give up yet with debian but loads of
sys admin is not really of too much interest to me.

Code:
dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86
that's the way I always configure X. If the nv driver doesn't work you'll need to get the driver from nvidia's website. Do you not have internet access or haven't gotten it setup yet?

Yes, I've got the driver squirrelled away safely
on the /home partition from the Suse install.
should have saved X config too i spose doh!

I assume I can just set up 800x600 as a start then sort
the nvidia.

will download the help again (from work connection)

thanx a lot, much obliged.
