Have you tried to boot the Sarge beta 4 installer with "linux26" command? (Also exploring the other boot options might be a good idea.) The daily builds of Sarge installer have newer kernels but they are likely to contain severe bugs.

You asked where to get the latest build of Sid. From the Sarge installer page, click the daily built images link. Then select the parent directory, and you'll find a link to the directory for the latest Sid images -- but I doubt trying Sid will do any good in your situation. You'll need to figure out some other solution.

EDIT:

Mmmm... On closer look, the images in the Sid directory appear to be Sarge images. Sorry about the misinformation.

Anyway, it seems obvious from what you've told that the Debian kernel images don't support your hard drive and you need to recompile the kernel. Try using the search engine here at LinuxQuestions.org. Select "Linux - Hardware" as the search forum and make a search for "sata".

There are some workarounds to getting SATA working on Linux. http://www.linuxmafia.com/faq/Hardware/sata.html. Perhaps you'll find something than can help solve your problem.
