What is Easiest DB to Set Up in Debian

I have a box with Squeeze on it that I want to use for some data collection. Which database software will be the easiest for a very lightly experienced Debian user to set up?

It will initially just be collecting data from a serial port but will eventually also be collecting from the my LAN.

Thanks,
JP.

This question invites all kinds of bias replies because anyone who knows anything about databases will mention the one they favor. I favor MySQL because in know its installation and usage well.

Unless you're going to be serving more than just a handful of active users, look at sqlite3. It couldn't be easier.

+1 for Sqlite3; as long as your needs are not great, otherwise I've had a go with Postgresql, which didn't seem to be too hard, lots of info & tutorials for it.

Looks like sqlite3 will be my first go at it.

Thanks,

Is there any reason that I shouldn't use OpenOffice Base? I forgot all about it being in the office sweet. Or is it just a DB query tool?

This will be a very simple (one table) DB not very big, not a lot of queries.

Thanks,
JP.

Well, back to SQLite3 and PHP5.

So I will use the Synaptic Package Manager to install:

PHP5; and
sqlite3.

A lot of other related packages come up when I search those two packages. Should I be installing any of those while I am at it?

Thanks,
JP.
