Weird keyboard problem with X

Hi all! I installed Debian 3.1r0 to my old computer. Pentium-S 166MHz 88MB SIMM memory Matrox MGA Millenium 2MB And now I have a problem with X, it runs properly etc, but the keyboard doesn't work good. When I write something, only few letters come to screen. So almost none of the keys work. The keyboard is old. The plug is not PS/2, serial or USB, I don't know its name, but its bigger than PS/2 and round. It has 5 or 6 pins. The keyboard works good at textmode. Suggestions?

It is called a DIN plug for the old AT style keyboard and it should not be causing you any problems it sounds like you have not configured it properly for X. Try using either dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86 or dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg as root depending on which you are using choose the advanced option I believe there is an option called something like choose keyboard from arch list you may need to use this, while you are at it get the refresh rates your monitor supports handy as Debian always sets these too low.
