updatedb via shell vs. cron

If I run updatedb from a bash shell versus /etc/cron.daily/find running daily my database is lighter...

Don't both of these methods use /etc/updatedb.conf for their config?

The cronjob has the -c option I bet.

Type updatedb --help to see exactly what the -c option does.

Hi,

I didn't see a -c option with man or info of updatedb but the man page for locate does have a -c (count?) option. Updatedb isn't symlinked to locate so I'm not grasping where locate would come into the picture. But I checked my updatedb.conf and cron script and there's no -c option in play with those... is there a way I can verify that further?

thanks for replying!

Well, I tried. Don't know where to go from here.

updatedb is symlinked to slocate on my slackware box and the cronjob has -c option. So I was tossing that around as a possibility.

vls, thanks for looking.

I'm still stuck on this if anyone else has any ideas. Thanks!
