Unable creating a booting USB stick

Hi all,

I download "debian-6.0.5-amd64-netinst.iso" on Debian website without problem.

check md5sum also without problem.

Burning ISO on USB stick

1)
# dd if=/path/to/debian-6.0.5-amd64-netinst.iso of=/dev/sdc1
also withtout problem/complaint.
(/dev/sdc1 usb stick/drive)

But the USB stick can't boot.

2)
Started "Startup Disk" on Ubuntu 12.04, 64bit desktop. Burned the iso on USB stick. It complained;
Code:
An uncaught exception was raised: Invalid version string 'GNU/Linux'
Having tried more than 2 hours without breakthrough. Pls help. TIA

You should burn the image to the entire usb and not just the first partition, try
Code:
dd if=/path/to/debian.iso of=/dev/sdc
note: sdc, not sdc1

Ah I see. Thanks

Having made following tests:

1)
# dd if=/path/to/debian-6.0.5-amd64-netinst.iso of=/dev/sdb
burning without complaint.

Unable to boot

2)
# dd if=/path/to/debian-live-6.0.4-amd64-gnome-desktop.iso of=/dev/sdb
burning without complaint.

It boots but unable to install

debian
The Universal Operating System

Code:
Boot menu

Live/Live (failsafe)/Text Install
Invalid or corrupt kernel image

boot:
CHS: Error 8001 reading sector 59300 (29/13/18)
EDD: Error 8000 reading sector 539300

3)
# dd if=/path/to/debian-6.0.5-amd64-CD-1.iso of=/dev/sdb
burning without complaint.
