Haven't used apt-listbugs, may check it out.
My installation starts from Woody bf24. I then add stable repositories to /etc/apt/sources.list.
Afterwards, I add a fresh module-init-tools, and the latest 2.6.X (Except for 2.6.9--fb support buggy and buggy for some time, use pristine source+some patches).
After getting new kernel up, i get rid of junk that i don't need like exim4 (mail transfer agent) and all its stuff.
I then get ALSA up with alsaconf (only in stable, manage my devices, no hotplug or discover)=fast bootup.
After the base is perfect, I put that on a 2.5G partition w/Lilo and add repositories for testing and unstable.
From that point on, SID!!!!!!! That stays pretty much as is and is a testbed for kernels.
I then clone that to a new larger partition and add packages.
If I get one that works dang good, I use partimage or Norton Ghost (doesnt get lilo or grub right unless in same partitioning scheme) to make a backup.
I have a laptop and love to be on cutting edge (only 3G w/clean /var/cache/apt/archives) w/KDE, firefox, ....
On a sad note, I installed X.org 6.8. An upgrade nixed it and 3ddesktop's ability to run (missing DRI-extensions but i use nvidia drivers so dunno). Had four installs then--all SID! from same basic Woody bf24-->2.6.X-->SID!
One was production, the other X.org, my basic base install, and one using grub, bootsplash, & several kernels and configurations for swsusp2 (worked with 2.6.7-2 well).
So, its SID and when i get better to pin packages and so forth, it will remain SID.
Now that's a long post for a simple question huhn? Make mine SID! and keep backups (barrels of em)!
