haven't had that particular problem, but you might want to try some of the other install kernels to see if you can bypass the problem
(with my woody cd's, i had to type bf24 as my kernel choice, the others did wonky things). havent installed from sid cd's, but i have upgraded to sid and it is awesome, so i hope you get it!
I also used Woody's cd and then upgraded it with bf24 for the kernel to Sid without much fuss. And it is awesome.
