Sarge or Squeeze for my Libretto 50CT?

Hello, my old Toshiba 50CT is still without Linux. I was considering to replace win95 by Debian. Which Linux distro would you think to be suited? The machine will be time to time on the net. Squeeze would probably run well... I would say, but Sarge would be faster. I have to customize the kernel though.

Or Debian stable? What do you think?

Go with the current stable, you can tune any release to run on older hardware

Toshiba 50CT

Intel Pentium 75.0 MHz, 16.0 MB RAM, 772.0 MB HDD.

Wont run, even with 'sarge'.

I believe that it might be possible with Sarge without using X11. If I get booted the kernel (modded), then, I have more than enough. I can run console applications (on tty), and it is more than sufficient. With console, I can do almost everything I want.

well, about disk space, it is rather a minimal problem, there are nice alternatives.

However, the slowness of the thing is an issue, ram, ...
Imagine compile using gcc a large dev hours
