I am using ubuntu.When I tried to install new themes for gnome it is not installing it.Not even the directory is created in ~/.icons or ~/.themes when i click to install it.I didnt have this problem when i used other distributions thats why i posted it in this plz help me in installing new themes.DO I NEED TO INSTALL ANY NEW PACKAGES TO HAVE IT. PLZ LET ME KNOW

What kind of themes are you installing, metacity (window decoration), gtk (controls) or icons? I usually just drag and drop the archive into the corresponding window in the theme manager. If there is a problem with the archive I will manually extract the folder from it and put it in it's place. The most common problem with archives I've found is that it is incorrectly created, and the folder is in one level too deep so I have to drill one level in the archive to grab the correct folder contents. One good look inside your ~/.themes folder will show you how everything should be structured.
