rawctl

I think this might be a difference between 2.6 and 2.4 kernels, but I can't find any explicit information on it anywhere. I'm using my own 2.6.8 kernel that I compiled from the source code from Debian. I'm wanting to link xine to a raw device to help speed up DVD playback. Perhaps this is obsolete in kernel 2.6 but I haven't seen that stated anywhere. The program 'raw' is installed but so far it doesn't even recognize the device node I created myself in /dev/. I even created a few of the /dev/raw/raw<N> files. Maybe a reboot will help it.

Does anyone know anything about rawctl setup or use in Debian with a 2.6 kernel? I spend more time on silly little adventures, but at least it causes me to learn. I wonder if Debian just puts things in a different spot.

I did add the alias of the rawctl node in the alias file in the modules folder. That's kind of different too come to think of it.
