I have run into a kernel bug that needs to be patched.

Is there a kernel fix for wheezy for this?

This is causing Symantec Backup Exec to fail after starting. I'm not sure which is worse maintaining a patched kernel or a patched application

The bug is in the backup exec program. What you are referring to is a kernel bug which was already fixed in 2.6.39 - fixing this bug caused your program to misbehave.

Follow the instructions in the blog and patch the backup exec agent yourself or see if the vendor has a patch/update.

Symantec is aware of the problem. No fix available as yet. I guess since I have to re-install to fall back to squeezy then I'm just going to switch to Centos 6.4.

Thanks anyway!
