In the configured mouse section and re-start the X server. You do not mention what the sound problem is but check if you are a member of the audio group with the command groups if you are not a member then adduser user_name audio as root then log out and back in for the changes to take effect.
this is my error for the sound card when i run sndconfig:
You don't seem to be running a kernel with modular sound
enabled. (soundcore.o was not found in the module search path).
To use sndconfig, you must be running a kernel with modular
sound, such as the kernel images shipped with Debian Linux or
a 2.2 or greater kernel
i have debian 3.0r1 installed so i know the kernel is 2.2 or better
Did you choose sound when you installed? If you did, try to recompile the kernel with sound as a module instead of in the kernel. Some things seem to work only as a module. I tried to compile it in the kernel and it wouldn't work (ESS 1868 ISA at the time). If you can insert it as a module now, that would be easiest. Try using modconf to see if you have the module available. Good luck.
