problem restarting apache

Had numerous problems lately for no reason as far as I can tell, one minute its working, the next its not....

anyhow, when i attempt to restart apache I get the following:

Starting web server: Apache2/usr/sbin/apache2ctl: line 100: 2443 Bus error $HTTPD -k start -DSSL

I am by no means knowledgable about Linux and would appreciate any suggetions/help to get around this problem.

Are you using debian GNU distribution ? If yes, which debian distribution version are you using ?

Yes and its version 3.1

Well I fixed it. In case this will help anyone else this is what i did.

remove apache altogether.

apt-get remove --purge apache2

(extreme and you will need to reconfigure the server)

apt-get remove --purge apache2-common

(removes all your config files)

Whether this is the bet way or not it worked for me!
