Problem removing package

When trying to remove the package fglrx-driver I get:

debian:/home/powadha# dpkg -r fglrx-driver
(Reading database ... 142245 files and directories currently installed.)
Removing fglrx-driver ...
dpkg (subprocess): unable to execute pre-removal script: Exec format error
dpkg: error processing fglrx-driver (--remove):
subprocess pre-removal script returned error exit status 2
dpkg (subprocess): unable to execute post-installation script: Exec format error
dpkg: error while cleaning up:
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 2
Errors were encountered while processing:
fglrx-driver

Is there any way to force removal or fix the error? The package is clearly broken and needs to be reinstalled (which fails aswell)

Regards

Switch to init 1 (text only) and retry. You may want to try the -f (force) option, read the man-page before doing so!

dpkg -P --force-remove-reinstreq fgrlx-driver
Maybe something like this?

Force gives the same result...seems a hard one to get fixed.

Maybe a wild idea. Exit your Window Manager. Kill the xorg process and anything else X-related. Then try again. This shouldn't be necessary but this way none of the files will be open.

That is exactly what I've said: switch to init 1 (which is single-user mode)

Nope, doesn't work. The system isn't using the package in anyway since the module has already been removed and I've set xorg to use ati for the time being.
There must be something wrong with it but it's kinda hard to find the solution.

Well, I got it done in a probable very nasty way. I removed the scripts from /var/lib/dpkg/info and could remove the package. Reinstalled and tried to remove it again...all works again.
