Pegasus USB module

Hi,

I have a problem getting my Corega FEther USB (TXS) ethernet device working with my DELL Latitude C600 laptop, unfortunately I don't have an internal network card.

I have been able to install the base system without problem. I install the pegasus module and also the 'dummy' network device so that I could go through the initial setup adding in the necessary network configs. BTW, by installing the pegasus module doesn't start the network config during installation.

After the 2.4 Kernel from Woody r4 had successfully installed, I modified the /etc/modules by moving the :

Code:
usb-uhci
to the top and adding :

Code:
pegasus alias eth0
underneath, and also removing "dummy".

I then changed the /etc/network/interfaces by removing the "dummy" config and adding :

Code:
auto eth0
iface eth0 inet static
	address 192.168.0.3
	netmask 255.255.255.0
	etc etc ...
During bootup the pegasus module is loading before the the network interface is being initialised. When the network is being configured it comes back with errors saying the device is not found.

After searching around on Google, I added the following to /etc/modules.conf :

Code:
### update-modules: start processing /etc/modutils/pegasus
alias usb-interface usb-uhci
alias eth0 pegasus

### update-modules: end processing /etc/modutils/pegasus
And created the retospective /etc/modutils/pegasus

I presume the problem is, the network interface doesn't know to use the pegasus module as a network device. Is there anyway to bind eth0 to the pegasus module or should they automatically be assigned to one another ?

Can anybody help ?

Rick

I had some similar problems with a USB network card a while back as well, I don't know if you're having the same problem I had however.
In my case, it turned out that the pegasus module wasn't used for my particular card - I had to use the rtl8150 module. Unfortunately, that module isn't included in the 2.4 kernel that ships with Woody. Fortunately, I was dual booting the machine at the time, so I was able to grab a more recent kernel and use the rtl8150 module that was included with that. It worked like a charm once I was able to get a newer kernel installed.
These days, it's much simpler to do a Sarge install, since it's got a more recent kernel included. You might try that route if your issue is simliar. Also, booting the machine with Knoppix and getting the output of lsmod (providing your network connection works under Knoppix) could tell you for sure if you are inadvertantly using the wrong module like I had done.
