original sarge /etc/apt/sources.list

Hello,

Thought I saved a copy of my original sources.list file in Sarge... but I did not. Can someone please give me the default sources.list? I know its just stable and security but I don't remember the text verbatim. Thanks.

Welcome to LQ!

Why do you need the original sources.list for Sarge? Are you having problems - tell us and we might be able to solve them.

Anyway, my sources.list on my Sarge box has the following lines, which are unchanged from when I set the box up. Obviously, the "wa.au" refers to my local mirror, so you should find one closer to you.

Code:
deb http://ftp.wa.au.debian.org/debian/ stable main
deb-src http://ftp.wa.au.debian.org/debian/ stable main

deb http://security.debian.org/ stable/updates main contrib
I hope this helps

just run netselect-apt to configure your sources list..

netselect-apt stable will check the mirrors for one that responds quickly to you, and will build a basic sources.list file for Sarge. Backup your sources.list file first if theres something in it you wish to save..

Thanks for your replies. I was messing around with new repositories and ended up with sort of a tangle. I deleted the sources.list (thought I had backed it up but hadn't) and boom- no file to work with. I'm purposely sticking with sarge and the 2.4x kernel because I'd like to learn how to build and compile a kernel (never done it before). I figure this is the next step and a good project for me to delve deeper under the hood of linux. I love this os and I want to learn more about it. I'll try the sources.list and tweak the mirrors Iball. Thanks for the netselect-apt tip farslayer.
