No hebrew at all in sarge

I installed debian sarge but when i entered a hebrew website e.g. www.walla.co.il
all i get is funny squares with hex numbers in it instead of letters
I installed all the package containing "hebrew" "xfonts"... it didn't work
and when I try to write hebrew on any application instead of letters I get squars
what should I do to?

Please Help Me!

What wm are you using (KDE, Gnome...)?
Fonts are usually easily installed through the KDE or Gnome "control panel".
I'm using sarge but I didn't install My Heb fonts with apt-get (the Debian way).
I simply installed them with Gnome or KDE tools.
Allthough I would think apt-getting fonts should install and register them in the right places...

Really?

Did you try:

# dpkg-reconfigure locales

there should be a few heb_IL options choose them all, and on the second screen, choose one of those as your language environment. Restart.
