network driver as deb package - how do I load it?

I have konverted a rpm package to deb (via alien) that holds my network driver. I have completed the first steps of a debian install and the machine has rebooted (and is now booting from HDD).

Now I have to load my network driver in order to complete the debian installation. I switched to a new console using ALT+F2, logged on as root and wrote:

dpkg -i bcm5700.deb

The package installed without errors, but no network driver seems to be loaded. Is there anything else I must do to load the driver?

do

Code:
lsmod
to see what kernel modules are loaded. if your network card driver is not loaded, do

Code:
modprobe bcm5700
