Need help making an xorg, conf file.

I need some help with making an xorg.conf file.
I found a post that said to use
Code:
xorg -configure
but I got a message that said X was already running. How would I shut
down X, so I could do this?

I have this video card:
Quote:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV6 [Vanta/Vanta LT] (rev 15)
I have white lines flickering across the screen, so would like to resolve
this.
I know that the driver for my card (nvidia-glx-71) does not support
3D for my card, so I think that is one of the problems.

I would appreciate help in making a xorg.conf file that would work for me.

Thanks.

Usually, I shut down X by doing as root /etc/init.d/gdm stop (replace gdm as needed with kdm, xdm, etc).

Can you post your current xorg.conf file and xorg log file?

The xorg.conf file is empty.
This is the xorg log file. It was pretty long. I had to cut some to
post. Let me know if I left something out.
