Obviously there was a glitch in installing grub. But you will have to provide more information about your system for anyone to help you. At least we know what partition system your machine is using. You have a 3-TB drive so it must be partitioned with gpt. Now we need to know:

1) Are you booting from a UEFI or a traditional BIOS?
2) What kind of error prompt does GRUB give you? Does it just say grub or grub rescue?

Have you tried reinstalling GRUB?

What distribution are you installing? Sorry, missed the Debain in the title. Where did you get the installation system, from Debian or from a third party?

" Grub rescue mode " "No boot-able device found pres F1 to boot again etc."

What i neglected to mention is i`m trying to boot from a USB docking station ** Also installed fron the same usb and all went well until reboot to finalize the installation ** - 2 different types but should be no problem.

By default, the uefi/bios will try to boot from the hard drive. If you want it to boot from usb, you may have to press a special key to get a boot menu. But my guess is that grub is installed on the hard drive and that may be the cause of the problem.

Grub rescue usually means that second-stage grub is running but hasn't been able to make contact with the place where its modules are stored. This is usually the /boot/grub directory on your Linux root partition. In your case, that will be on the usb drive, which complicates things.

This link https://www.techwalla.com/articles/h...se-grub-rescue shows how you can use the grub rescue prompt to find where things are, and so pull yourself up by hand into the proper boot sequence.

download and boot the boot repair iso https://sourceforge.net/p/boot-repair-cd/home/Home/
and post the results from it with everything plugged in.

It`s a hub with a Hdd plugged in but fed by usb - usb will boot from using uefi as that's when i get the errors - legacy boots the onboard default OS.

Ah! Then the GRUB that you see must be the one on your usb drive. So the uefi is behaving correctly. The problem, I think, is that GRUB cannot find its modules. They should be on the usb drive in /boot/grub. Normally the first module that is loaded is the GRUB shell and that enables GRUB to parse its config file and put up a menu. If it can't do that, it gives the grub> prompt. But you have grub rescue>, not grub>, so it hasn't found the modules yet.

You can use your default OS to mount and examine your root partition on the usb drive and see if the GRUB files are where they should be.

The link I gave you shows how to boot by hand from the rescue prompt so that you can reinstall GRUB.

USB hubs can be problematic.
