Message from syslogd being outputted to stdout

Hi All,

I just purchased a dedicated server from a hosting provider with a fresh install of Debian. Every so often the following is being outputted to stdout:

Code:
Message from syslogd@www at Thu Mar 30 11:46:27 2006 ...
www kernel: Disabling IRQ #11
Any ideas what would cause this? Is this something I should be concerned about? Is this my issue or the hosting providers issue, meaning is there something configured wrong, or is there something up with the hardware?

Thanks,
-Kevin

Hi,

Maybe it's me but I see 2 questions.

1) www kernel: Disabling IRQ #11

Most of the time you can ignore the "Disabling IRQ #xy" message. Only thing I can come up with that needs further investigation is when a certain device does not work anymore after you get this message.

2) Message from syslogd being outputted to stdout

klogd is responsible for these messages. Messages with a certain level can also be redirected to stdout.
You can change this behavior (disabling it or rise the severity level) by removin/adding/changing klogd's -c <number> option.

Take a look at man klogd for details.

Here are some klogd/debian related links:

http://linuxint.net/DOCS/Linux_Docs/...ips_tricks.sxw

Hope this helps.
