make sure you started X before you start Fluxbox?!

Well, I installed KDE and it was extremely slow on my IBM Laptop (Celeron 366)
I then installed fluxbox. When I try to start flux - get:
Make sure you started X before you start Fluxbox.

If I type startx, KDE starts. How am I supposed to go about starting X before I start Fluxbox?

$ echo "exec fluxbox" > ~/.xinitrc
$ startx

You could make ~/.xinitrc to look like this:
Code:
exec fluxbox
#exec startkde
The # character prevents shell from reading the line. So the above .xinitrc would start fluxbox when you do startx . You can toggle the place of the # character when you want to start kde instead of fluxbox.
