kdmtheme installation problems

Hey all,

I'm trying to install a package called kdmtheme that should let manage the themes for the login screen. I've downloaded the .deb file. However, when I try to install it it says that it depends on kdelibs4.

The problem is that if I try to install kdelibs4 through Synaptic, I end up having to uninstall what appears to be all KDE apps, and KDE itself. Any ideas why?

I'm using Debian Sarge, and haven't upgraded to the 2.6 kernel yet. I do have KDE 3.4. I also have kdelibs4c2 installed.

Ummm... have you voiced your concerns to the prog's developer?

Try switching your repositories over to testing (etch) momentairly then:

# apt-get install kde-kdm-themes

Thanks. Done that - actually used 3.4-1 (holding 'Krystal' and 'Linux passion' themes) found in Synaptic - and modified /etc/kde3/kdm/kdmrc as advised. Still no theme change. No themes visible in KDE Control Center either.

Locate kde-kdm finds:

What should I have done to get these themes?
