Is it possible to create a new syslog file at boot time?

I'd like to create a new syslog file every time the machine boots without disturbing the normal daily log rotation mechanism in a Debian Sarge system.
Primarily for troubleshooting boot up problems with custom kernels.

I can run /etc/cron.daily/sysklogd manually just before shutdown but I was hoping for an automated solution.

Is this possible?

You could try creating a small script who calls that function on boot or shutdown. Store it in your home-dir and make a sym-link from inside /etc/rc2d (boot) or /etc/rc0.d (shutdown) and perhaps /etc/rc6.d (reboot) Read man init and some info on bash scripting online (use Google to find them, I didn't bookmark what I've read )
