installing GCC

I've installed gcc using apt-get install gcc... However when i compile a program, I get this error:

#gcc test.c
test.c:1: stdio.h: No such file or directory

That is, the header file does not exist.. Is there a more correct way to install GCC?

I believe that the stdio.h and other header files are part of the glibc-devel package.
