ifup cant read network interfaces

Has anybody got a working /etc/network/interfaces.

On boot mine is not working and I have tried tomake it from the man pages but something is wrong. I use dhcp on eth0. My network interfaces is
Quote:
# This file describes the network interfaces available on your system
# and how to activate them. For more information, see interfaces(5).

# The loopback network interface
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

# This is a list of hotpluggable network interfaces.
# They will be activated automatically by the hotplug subsystem.
mapping eth0
script grep
map eth0

# The primary network interface
allow-hotplug eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp

auto eth0
I can bring the network up with dhcpcd eth0 but would like it to work right off the bat.

SuSE 10 has separate files for each interface. They are named like ifcfg-eth0.

Use YaST to configure them.

Is your nic pcmcia or usb?
If not you shouldn't need the hotplug mapping

auto lo eth0
iface lo inet loopback
iface eth0 inet dhcp

should be all you need.
