i got a vds running. i got a doubt on how to install eggdrop, basically, what should i need and programs? and how do i install, any commands? looking forward in all kinds of reply. thanks
it will probably install the same way as any other program... check the sticky thread at the top of the Linux - General forum for generic instructions. if you come across a specific problem about eggdrop's configuration, please ask again.
Have you installed alien? You need that to install rpm's on Debian. Or just use APT. Are you using a Debian-based distro? Or is this post in the wrong forum?
i see.. im using Debian. nothing else. ok then, i will use apt. but, i still got a question mark in my head.
1) what software should i install using apt for my installation of eggdrop?
2) what is the specific command after i received the tcl software to load the eggdrop installation ?
[ken:~](06:43 AM)$ apt-cache search eggdrop

The following NEW packages will be installed:
eggdrop eggdrop-data

Need to get 876kB of archives.
After unpacking 2658kB of additional disk space will be used.
Do you want to continue? [Y/n]
Hit the Y key at that prompt. Voila! It's installed.
After, you can run the command:
`dpkg -L eggdrop`
to list all of the files installed by eggdrop. I suggest then navigating to /usr/share/doc/eggdrop and reading the documentation.
How long have you been using Debian to confuse RPM and APT?
You should read this:
Hi there.. thanks for help.. i followed your help but theres a error occurs log shown, this error occurs after i typed " make ". looking forward into your reply.. thanks
You didn't follow my help. You are trying to compile eggdrop from source. But if you learn how to use apt-cache and apt-get, you can fix this yourself.
hehe, alritez.. yes i got it. hm.. im wondering there's a eggdrop.simple.conf.gz located at /usr/share/doc/eggdrop. how do i get there to access? or how do i configure my eggdrop conf? hm.. im very² new to debian infact, just got debian up last saturday, kekeke.. and finally i got your help, its a memorable lesson to me, and i wont forget this.
That is not a ZIP file. It is a gzipped file. You are correct it's not tarred up. My mistake. All the same, are you unfamiliar with some basic *nix utilities like cd, ls, tar, untar?
Please be forthcoming so we can help you more.
Simply by cd'ing to the program's documentation directory (which on Debian will be /usr/share/doc/name-of-program) and reading the docs can answer ALOT of your questions.
So to be very simple and clear:
copy that eggdrop.simple.conf.gz file to your home directory.
gunzip it.
Read it.
You may learn much from running
`man eggdrop` too.
Either way good luck. You should read up on Linux & GNU utilities to get a better grasp of them. (You're questions aren't very Debian-specific, but I hope you have learned where we keep documentation, how to use apt-cache search, and how to ask better questions)
