How to Edit Startup

Could someone please explain to me how to edit startup services on debain current? On mandriva I had a gui app for it and I never had this problem on slackware but now I have way too many uneccesary processes on startup.
Thanks in advance for replies

You can do this:

apt-get install rcconf, then run the command rcconf and choose the services that you want on boot.

I hope this help you!

Obs: you can read this too:

man update-rc.d

thanks a lot, I ended up having that. I been apt getting stuff last couple of days. My only problem with debian vs slackware is that no one updates the packages for debian, they are all so old and now debians package finder is down.

debian sarge is most stable with backports for updated gnome or kde, firefox, etc.
debian etch has newer pkgs but it is 'testing'. Many live happily with etch.
debian sid has latest pkgs and some run sid system. You do have many choices and options. It is your pc. It all depends on what you want.
http://thegoldenear.org/toolbox/unic...n-testing.html site helps you setup etch desktop. Site also includes sarge setup and server setup.

Try apt-cache search search_term to see what packages may be related to what you want for the newer packages try Backports.org and see if they have the newer versions you are looking for. Oh and for the graphical startup editor try ksysv or just remove the package that starts the service if you know you are not going to use it.
