GNU screen is driving me nuts..

Debain 8.5 . Hi everyone.

In GNU screen, the list of windows now dynamically changes its names - instead of "bash", or the name I chose for that screen to user@hostname - depending where did I SSH to on that window.

e.g
1.bash -->good
2.my terminal ->>> good

3.my_username@remotehost.com ->>> Not good. This was overwritten by bash/screen.

I tried changing PROMPT_COMMAND in .bashrc, even in /etc/bash.bashrc, just in case it over-wrote my own .bashrc (I know, it should not, but I got desperate).

Any tips on how to stop this from happening ?

The title of the thread is misleading, sorry - I know it's a Bash config issue, rather than GNU screen.

Thank you.

what is a "In GNU screen," ???
i do not have what ever that is in my install of Debian8

if you are referring to the TERMINAL ( and yes Microsoft Windows also has one - well 2 )
then what terminal are you using

the emulator in
gnome ?
kde?
xfce?
or a text only boot

The Arch wiki ( for the arch distro) is a GREAT source for information for what ever OS you are running
have a look at
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php..._customization

and
http://bashrcgenerator.com/

this mostlikley will not work in KDE , kde has it's own config files
but seeing as i DO NOT know what desktop manager you are using .....

GNU Screen is a terminal emulator.

Thank you for your reply.

I found the soltion, crazy - it was actually on the target machine, and not on my local.

CentOS7 has this section in /etc/bashrc, originally not commented out:

Code:
#    screen*)
#      if [ -e /etc/sysconfig/bash-prompt-screen ]; then
#          PROMPT_COMMAND=/etc/sysconfig/bash-prompt-screen
#      else
#          PROMPT_COMMAND='printf "\033k%s@%s:%s\033\\" "${USER}" "${HOSTNAME%%.*}" "${PWD/#$HOME/~}"'
#      fi
#      ;;
As can be easily derived from the *screen* look up, it messes with the prompt/PS1 once the term=screen.
I commented it out - and screen works as usual.
