forwarding permanantly

Hi,
I want to use my machien as a gateway for others ones, instead of doing that at manually
echo "1" > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward
I want to do it permanantly , Where to store it ??. I tried FORWARD_IPV4=true in /etc/network/interfaces, it gives an error!!
thanks for help

You can put things like that in /etc/rc.local and it will execute after each boot. If your gateway setup gets more complex, you might want to create a 'service', in the convention exemplified by the services in /etc/rc.d.

Actually, the way to do this is to set it in /etc/sysctl.conf. All of the /proc/sys settings can be done in this file.
