Debian newbie on how to get to another address upon bootup

First I'd like to explain , the gentleman who set this up has passed away and no one here can help.

We are using Debian desktops as operator console to our mainframe.
The desktop on the test side for the main console has died and the alternate console is co-residing as a local TSO terminal.
I need this to be a alternate much more that a TSO terminal, but when I reboot it it defaults to the TSO application.
How can I stop this and get the PC to bring up the other address in it?

Thanks

mace

or I guess my question could also be, how do I get back to the debian shell once the machine has booted up to the application?

https://debian-handbook.info/browse/...-services.html may help.

I suspect the usual method of {Ctrl,Shift,...} will force a boot prompt where you should be able to distinguish what's necessary.

been reading and 1 article showed a control+C to kill the process....that didn't work.. so I will assume control+Z will not suspend it

" I reboot it it defaults to the TSO application"

Those words make me think you have a pxe booted terminal and no real hard drive installed.

Usually one can bring up a program or some terminal to access tools like ipconfig or other settings to make static ip permanent. If this ip is dynamic then I'd think mac address would usually force an ip to it from server.

That's a good idea, but unfortunately it is a hard drive
