Try uninstalling and reinstalling gvfs-backends again, because like I said, it should work automatically with Thunar.

If that still doesn't work, go to /etc/udev/rules.d/69-libmtp.rules and edit it with a text editor, if it doesn't exist then create it.

Code:
$ sudo vim /etc/udev/rules.d/69-libmtp.rules
Add the following line into the file:

Code:
ATTRS{idVendor}=="1ebf", ATTRS{idProduct}=="707d", SYMLINK+="libmtp", MODE="660", ENV{ID_MTP_DEVICE}="1"
Restart udev.
Now it should hopefully show up in Thunar.

I think the code line should not have '#' at start.

Reinstalling gvfs-backends did not have any benefit. The device is not picked up on connecting (in Thunar or in any file manager). It shows up in file manager once the command is given on command prompt. I think I will have to work with that.

You're right, my mistake, sorry about that. It has been fixed.

That's strange, have you tried restarting your computer?

Restarting did not help. The command has to be given on commandline.

Another problem is that even after command, when device appears in Thunar, it still does not appear in Dolphin, the KDE file manager. The package is kio-mtp is already installed. How can this be solved?

Sorry, I have only done this with Thunar so I don't know how to do this with Dolphin.

The only thing I can think of is installing the latest version of libmtp from source, the latest version might fix some bug present in version 1.1.8, which is the version available in Debian Jessie. Although the above worked perfectly for me.

Looks easy enough.

My Debian Stable system does not have 'solid' folder in /usr/share/apps/:
Code:
/usr/share/apps$ cd solid
bash: cd: solid: No such file or directory
So I cannot use Arch wiki method.

Try typing mtp:/ in the addressbar of your file manager.

It does not work. The file area remains blank in Dolphin.

Ah, it seems that what I have suggested hasn't worked. From what I've read, it seem that kio-mtp doesn't play nice with Dolphin. If you must use Dolphin as your file manager you might want to make a post about kio-mtp working with Dolphin since I can't find anything useful. Maybe someone who has had a similar problem might be able to help.
