command line, create iso file and burn it on a CD

Is it still possible to create an iso file and burn it onto
a CD using the command line ?
I have a SATA hard drive and an IDE LG DVD/CD drive.
I have all the old commands written down, but they
don't work on this computer. I suspect its because
the hard drive is SATA and it looks like mkisofs and
cdrecord are not installed.
I really like using the command line when possible.
I can su to root if necessary.

If you don't have mkisofs and cdrecord installed, you can always install them.

Also you can use cdrdao, that creates a .toc file that you can then burn to a disk. Or dd to create the iso file (dd if=/dev/sr0 of=~/image.iso) and then burn it with wodim

Though, if you tried any of those tools and got specific errors, maybe you could post the errors here.

Hi,

there is a nice little python script called "burn" (in the package of the same name). After installing it, you can set it up using "burn-configure" (accepting the default choices for most options should be fine).
You can create an iso of a directory tree and burn it with the following command:
Code:
burn -I -p /path/to/burn
If this is not exactly what you want, have a look at the burn man page: there is a very nice EXAMPLES section.

HTH,

Evo2.
